Economic Department

The Economic Department of the Embassy of Peru in the United States performs activities related to the bilateral relations between Peru and the United States in economic, trade and cooperation matters, especially regarding the process of implementation and administration of the Trade Promotion Agreement. It also monitors the process of negotiations of the future Trans-Pacific Partnership, cooperation for development and social inclusion, environmental sustainability, science and technology, and the settlement of investment disputes in Peru, among other relevant subjects.

Additionally, this department analyses the impact that the economic and trade policies of the United States may have on the Peruvian economy. In coordination with the Commercial Office of the Embassy ​​follows up the trade flows, the climate investment and encourages U.S. investors to do business with Peru.

The Economic Department maintains close contact with federal agencies of the United States as the Department of State, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Treasury, USTR, USAID and others. It also has close contact with Peruvian representatives of the International Financial Institutions (IFIs) headquartered in Washington, DC, as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), keeping itself up-to-date with the activities and projects of these institutions. Under the private chapter, this department has constant contact with business associations in this country, think-tanks and NGOs.

This Department coordinates with the competent authorities in Peru all aspects of the bilateral economic agenda of both countries.
